Why it matters to review an app before installing it
Thousands of new apps are released every week, and not all of them are trustworthy. A malicious app can steal data, drain battery life, or display intrusive ads.
Therefore, before installing any app, it's advisable to do a quick check that will only take 2 minutes and can save you a lot of trouble.
1. Check the permissions
A flashlight app that requests access to your location or contacts is suspicious. Each permission must be relevant to the app's function.
Tip: Be wary of apps that request access to your camera, microphone, or SMS without any apparent need.
2. Read reviews and ratings
Comments from other users may reveal hidden bugs, excessive battery consumption, or strange behavior.
Positive signs
- Detailed reviews with real experiences.
- Consistent rating (4 stars or more).
Negative signs
- Many complaints about invasive advertising.
- Very short and repetitive 5★ reviews (could be fake).
3. Check the developer
An app created by a recognized company is more trustworthy than one from an unknown author.
Tip: Click on the developer's name in the store and see what other apps they've published.
4. Warning signs
- Exaggerated promises like “get rich in 1 day.”
- Few downloads but many suspicious positive reviews.
- Infrequent or abandoned updates.
